Mudras are hand symbols originating from Hindu / Buddhist culture used to derive a symbolic meaning or intention. Gyan Mudra is often used in meditation as it circulates energy, maintains focus and is known to connect the practitioner to the divine spirit.
I usually meditate anywhere 5 to 30 minutes. On the longer practices if I’m feeling less focused, I’ll use this time for kegel exercises 🤣 2 birds, 1 seated position 🕊

A variation on Lotus Pose, Padmasana 🧘🏼♀️
If you have achy knees this variation is not for you. Rising up to balance on the knees aids in opening and stabilizing your hips and pelvic floor.
This pose is a representation of enlightenment and perfection of which we are all destined. As with the Lotus flower, we are born in the mud (ego). Through practices of transformation, we are meant to rise above the surface, expose our petals of spirit and true divinity, to share with the World 🕊

Home base for me is anything Inversion.
I love the feeling of being upside, 🩸+ 💨 rushing to my head. I feel a levity in my low body, legs are weightless and spine strong so I’m able to find a deep stretch in my hips and groin.

Back problems? Trouble in your traps? Neck locking up on you?
One of the most common complaints I see from my patients. I enjoy floating legs but for increased stabilization you can do legs up the wall, or in sanskrit, Viparita Karani. Benefits include-
⚫️decompression of low back
⚫️increased circulation
⚫️movement of qi (energy in the body)
⚫️supports lymphatic drainage
⚫️DE STRESS
I do this posture at least 2x a day whether my back is hurting or I simply need a moment to myself, anywhere from 3 minutes to 30 minutes. I try to regularly practice Viparita Karani prior to bedtime as my stationary meditation. What I've found, I sleep much better 😴

I have been doing the splits since before I can remember! In yoga, this posture is called Samakonasana. Like anything in life, if you want to achieve and/or maintain an ability, it takes consistency. Through activities such as stretching, yoga and Ballet, I have maintained my ability to do the center splits with ease and comfort. Now that I am older, not only does it feel great in my body to have this ability, it also makes for a fun party trick 😉

Here are 2 of my loves, space buns and arm inversions! I am in the preparation pose for Astavakrasana or Eight Angle Pose. To get into the arm inversion then ultimately Astavakrasana, begin seated is Dandasana (Staff pose), you will take your right leg and hook it as high as you can on your shoulder, begin to shift the weight heavily into your hands and press your shoulders to stack over your elbows and wrist. Strongly engage your core and begin to float your extended leg off the ground. This is where I'm at. To get into the full posture, you will do a counterbalance act of brining the weight more into the shoulders and hands while you rotate forward, simultaneously bending your extended leg to hook at your ankles, squeezing the inner thighs to extend your legs out to the side. Full posture, Astavakrasana, to come in a future post 😇

I like to call this, ‘on the verge of being a pretzel’ pose. Kurmasana, tortoise pose, is not the most graceful to get in and out of but it has a wonderful essence of pressing the body into the Earth. Benefits include stretching through the hamstrings from the ischial tuberosity as well as deep opening in the hips, shoulders and chest.

Sun Gazing 🌞
Within 3 hours of waking, it’s beneficial to your health to gaze at the Sun. This protocol can raise cortisol levels, decrease stress, improve sleep and align your system with the circadian rhythm. It is also within our innate phenology to align our sleep wake cycles with the Sun and the Moon.

Wake up and play! My favorite way to get into a backbend is falling in from a handstand. You have to trust your core strength to give you the support you need to effortlessly land your feet. This type of inversion has so many benefits

Mandukasana or Frog Pose 🐸 is the single best hip opener you can do, why? Because you have gravity on your side! Usually I will stay in the posture anywhere from 3-5 minutes, using my breath as a tool to relax and create more space in my hips and pelvis.
I love this posture so much that I will do it anywhere, even on the kitchen counter 😏

Let’s talk self cultivation exercises. As a bodyworker, it is imperative that my qi (energy) is aligned in order to provide the highest level of healing to my clients. Some of my self cultivation exercises include tai chi, meditation and qi gong. If I don’t have enough time for a full practice, I like to incorporate the ‘super hero’ posture with my meditation by lifting my arms up to the sky and creating openness in my heart and inter coastal spaces using deep breath. This is said to release a power hormone boosting energy and self confidence 🦸🏼♀️

Lotus Pose or Padmasana is my go to posture for a seated mediation. If you are looking to start a meditation practice, attempt 12 minutes a day for 3 weeks and you are guaranteed to see results in you ability to focus, sleep quality and emotional regulation. I have been practicing meditation for over 10 years and it has become an integral part of my ability to live well 🙏🏼

Rise & Shine! One of the first things I do when I wake up is move my body! I feel as if I'm getting all of the kinks out of my joints which is especially important for our bigger joints such as shoulders and hips. If you're like me, you may hear a couple pops or crunches. I'm less focused on alignment and more so listening to my body to facilitate a feeling of openness.

When you need to wake up quickly and have no coffee or Yerba mate around, go to Chakrasana! Backbends have a litany of benefits including stimulating your adrenal glands, opening up the chest, improving strength as well as flexibility. Chakrasana is an especially useful pose if you are pre-diabetic, diabetic or suffer from respiratory disorders.
I’ve been doing this pose for 10yrs+, once you are comfortable in the initial variation with hands on the ground, expand your practice and play with lowering down to your forearms. The beauty in the practice is to push your boundaries to new discoveries of expression 🙏🏼
