To get into the arm inversion then ultimately Astavakrasana, begin seated is Dandasana (Staff pose), you will take your right leg and hook it as high as you can on your shoulder, begin to shift the weight heavily into your hands and press your shoulders to stack over your elbows and wrist. Strongly engage your core and begin to float your extended leg off the ground. This is where I'm at. To get into the full posture, you will do a counterbalance act of brining the weight more into the shoulders and hands while you rotate forward, simultaneously bending your extended leg to hook at your ankles, squeezing the inner thighs to extend your legs out to the side.
