As some o you know, I'm playing Tecmo Bowl on my NES Classic (Mini). And I realized that there wasn't any players names! I guess they didn't get the NFLPA license for it. It's okay, I don't really need players names to be honest! lol
Originally, Tecmo was not able to get the NFL's consent to use real team names. As a result, the teams in the game are identified solely by their home city or state. However, through the NFLPA license, each roster mimics that of the NFL team based out of the same city or state. Tecmo Bowl only uses players from 12 of the best and most popular teams of the time. I wonder who would be the 12 teams if it was done in 2022. Thoughts?
The teams featured in the game back then are Indianapolis, Miami, Cleveland, Denver, Seattle, Los Angeles (Raiders), Washington, San Francisco, Dallas, New York (Giants), Chicago, and Minnesota.

ps: To any football fan and gaming fan, I recommend trying it if you haven't! I swear, it's way more fun that you could imagine! I had my doubts at first too!!!
Been discovering Tecmo Bowl in the last few days. I'm used to playing the latest Madden games...so Tecmo Bowl was going REALLY back in time. And you know what? As much as I really like a real life sim like Madden games, I got a LOT of fun playing Tecmo Bowl. I get why it was called one of the best 100 games ever made!
Can you imagine? The playbook only has 4 plays. It's not even the right number of players on the field. You can't see a face. Can't see the crowd or the referee. And yet, time goes by so fast while playing it.
I like that you can play against friends who have zero knowledge of football. No need to overanalyze a playbook. No need for 20 different controls, audibles. etc. Don't get me wrong, nothing can replace Madden, but I was pleasantly surprised of the gameplay with 2 buttons and a little 4 way pad.

3. Buy a 12V 2A power adapter (a few bucks on Amazon) to power the screen

4. Once you get your PC, plug it to another screen. It's easier than to work on the long screen. On there, increase the font size to 110, speed to the maximum, transparency to none, click Auto-Run, and add the RSS feeds you want. Remember when I talked to you about Mappy yesterday? I was surprised to see how few people had ever played that game. I'm used to seeing it on Arcade1Up machines so, to me, it was a "common game". Then I did some research.
Mappy is an early Namco arcade game that achieved great success in Japan, and very little success in the United States. Behind its cute characters and presentation is a surprisingly strategic platform arcade game that requires a lot of planning, and can become quite frantic. It runs on the same hardware as Super Pac-Man (two Motorola M6809 microprocessors running at 1.536 MHz), but modified to support horizontal scrolling.
Since Mappy wasn't extraordinarily popular in the U.S., there isn't a lot of history to report. The name Mappy is likely derived from mappo (マッポ), a Japanese slang term (slightly insulting) for a policeman. The large red cat was known as "Nyamco" in Japan, which besides being a play on Namco, comes from nyanko (ニャンコ), the Japanese equivalent of "kitty cat". Nyamco was renamed "Goro" in the U.S. release of the game.
Mappy was ported to a large number of home computers and consoles in Japan, and saw no American conversions. However, it has now shown up more recently in the United States thanks to the Namco Museum 50th Anniversary compilations, Microsoft Revenge of Arcade for Windows, and the Jakks Pacific Namco TV Games Plug-And-Play systems.
Interesting background story...if it was an American game, it would probably be called "Piggy" LOL based on why they called it Mappy, haha! Still not sold on that game (yet). I still haven't beaten the damn default high score on the machine and that annoys me!!!

I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest MK fan! I have never really played fight games. I'll definitely try it and it could be fun when people come over. I'm more excited about the other games on this cabinet where you can chase high scores like Rootbeer Tapper (did you know it was Budweiser before? But in 2022...you don't promote beer anymore LOL). Rampage is a crazy fun game! Joust, Gauntlet and Defender are all classics. Toobin should be fun too. It's a shame that some of those vertical screen games will be on a horizontal monitor, but that's the tradeoff you have to do sometimes.
And yes...I know...the art is missing Johnny Cage !!! But due to trademarks issues, they can't have it on here.

Tried to play Happy at my break this morning. OMFG, I suck at it! LOL not sure if I enjoy it yet...! I'll keep trying here and there. Might just go back to Galaga and Dig Dug otherwise. Or keep increasing my score at Rompers.
Really looking forward to getting my Midway Legacy cabinet later this year for some new records to chase.

Made some stupid mistakes on round 9. But reached another milestone.
Debating what will be my next record chasing game. Thinking of Mappy. Never really invested time in it before… Do you like this game?
As you know, my record chasing game is currently Rompers. (It was Dig Dug before, and before that Galaga!)
I wondered why many people didn't hear about that game (myself included) before a few years ago. I couldn't remember having seen it in arcades. So I did a quick online search and realized this game was released in 1989 in Japan but NEVER released in arcades in North America!
Want to guess why? At some point, the enemies, in the more advanced levels, are blue ghosts smoking, chasing you to give you cancer with secondhand smoke LOL I'm not even kidding!!!! It's likely the reason it wasn't released in North America back then. It's kind of hilarious hahahaha
The first official home conversion for the game was in Namco Museum Encore, the series' only Japanese-exclusive installment (which also featured Wonder Momo and was released on the PlayStation) - and in 2009, Rompers went on to appear on the Nintendo Wii's Japanese Virtual Console market. The original arcade version finally got its first official North American release in June of 2018, as one of the titles included in Pac-Man's Pixel Bash. Its second North American appearance came in March of 2021, as one of the 12 titles included on the Namco Legacy Edition arcade cabinet from Arcade1Up.
Anyhow, that's why you heard of Rompers in the most recent years, but back when we were kids unless you were chilling in Japan, you probably never played it!
I'm in the top-40 on Arcade1Up rank boards (2-3 thousand people have recorded a high score). I'm still not satisfied with mine, and I believe I can do better. I'll keep working on it - record chasing is fun!!!

Spent my break playing my Class of 81 cab. My favorite one that I own right now (at least, my most played with!) It’s a beauty. Marquee was washed out so I changed it with a prettier one that comes forward (gives some depth impression). Might raise it from 4 more inches to make it easier on the eyes.
Anyhow, I beat my high score on Rompers! 136k! I feel I can do much better though.
