On April 9, 1909, African American Matthew Henson and Robert Peary arrived at the true North Pole🥶🧊. But getting there was no easy feat. The pair had made former attempts, but all had failed, including one where six members of the expedition team died of starvation. After they finally made it in 1909, Henson and Peary went on to explore the arctic for another two decades!!
However, because this was the early 1900s, upon their return home from the North Pole 🥶🧊, Peary was met with extensive praise, while Henson was barely noticed. In 1912, Henson published a memoir titled A Negro Explorer in the North Pole that detailed his Arctic adventures. It helped call attention to his role in the achievement, but he was still mostly forgotten. In 1937, he finally received long-deserved recognition when he was invited to join the New York Explorer’s Club. It wasn’t until 2000, after his death, that Henson was awarded the National Geographic Hubbard Medal.

*** 🤯🤯 Did You Know?! 🤯🤯 ***
Millie and Christine McKoy, born near the town of Whiteville, N.C. on July 11, 1851, to slave parents Jacob and Monemia, who were owned by blacksmith Jabez McKay, WERE conjoined twins born into slavery. They later became one of the most notable “human oddities” attractions in the world. Coined as the “Two-Headed Girl” and/or the “Two-Headed Nightingale,” delighted crowds with song and dance performances, reading aloud poetry they wrote together. Although they were born under circumstances that could have defeated them, they managed to carve out an interesting life!
Joined at the lower spine, the twins stood at an angle away from each other. Each sister had her own arms and limbs, although they shared a pelvis. McKay, sold the twins for $1,000 to an agent when they were just 10 months old. By 3-years-old, they became a featured attraction in P.T. Barnum’s American Museum in New York. They were stolen and shipped them to England where they toured between 1854 and 1855. Their mother regained custody back with their slave owner once they found the Sisters.
The Sister's fans included British royalty like Queen Victoria, who invited them to Buckingham Palace to perform in 1871.
The twins rejoined P.T. Barnum’s traveling circus until their health began to fade. The twins succumbed to tuberculosis on October 8, 1912.

Steve McNair shared the award with Peyton Manning in 2003. He is, also, the youngest quarterback (23) to throw for 50 touchdowns in a season & tied for the youngest to throw for more than 5,000 yards in a season!!!
African American Quarterback legends Warren Moon, Doug Williams, and James Harris discuss the significance of Mahome winning the MVP Award. They represent three important pillars of the African American American quarterback evolution in the NFL.
Harris became first black quarterback to start a regular season at quarterback in 1974 & to start a playoff game.
Williams became first black quarterback to win a Superbowl Championship on January 31st, 1988.
In 2006, Moon became first black quarterback to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame, NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 1990, & AFC Offensive Player of the Year the same year!!!

There's a BRILLIANT African American WOMAN by the name of Valerie Thomas who worked for NASA. Never forget her name. She is THE Scientist & inventor who patented the illusion transmitter in 1980! After seeing an illusion that involved concaved mirrors and light bulbs in a museum, she became curious how might she use this technique via NASA. Using concave, mirrors arose what we now call 3D Technology! NASA continues to use her invention to this day & she also developed real time computer data systems to support satellite control centers AND oversaw the creation of the NASA Landsat Program that spearheaded some of the FIRST image transmissions from Space!

Thanks to his successes with other inventions, he became the first black person jn Cleveland, Ohio to own a car during that time in history(think about that for a bit...THE FIRST 🤯).

In 1936 at the Berlin Olympic games held in Germany, Jesse Owens (1913 - 1980), an African American Track & Field Athlete, set a world record in the long jump that went unrivaled for 25 years!!!!! He won four gold medals at those Olympics in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, along with the 100 meter relay and other events of the track. This was during Hitler's reign! Hitler refused to shake hands with Jesse Owens or any Gold Medalist except the German Gold Medalist. Not only did Hitler refuse Owens BUT our own president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, never acknowledged Owens or any of the other 18 African American Olympians' triumphs at the Berlin Olympics.
In 1976, Owens received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1990!!!!
(Posthumously is an Adverb meaning after the death of the originator 😉)

He wished to choreograph his own ballets & works that differed from tradition pieces at the time. He honed in on his on technique at Lester Horton Dance Theater. This inspired him to start the Alvin Ailey American Dance theater in 1958, a multiracial troupe that provided a platform for talented black damcers & traveled the world 🌍. His company still exist today in New York City!
