I know it’s hard to believe today but this was the wx last week in Chicago 🌩️ If you look at the prog chart you’ll see a warm front followed by a dry line and a cold front that extends north. A dry line will typically form north to south in the southern and central plains of the United States. This line represents the boundary between the moist air that is drawn up from the Gulf of Mexico, and the drier air blowing across the deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Convective activity begins at the dryline because it’s where the densities of the 2 air masses converge. The dry dense air acts like a wedge, lifting the less dense moist air. This behavior creates a lifting action. DM me to nerd out about wx 🤓🥰

Logged a lot of solo hours the past couple months! Sometimes it’s a little nerve racking to fly solo because all the decisions concerning the flight depends on you. Wx, preflight, comms, in-flight emergencies, etc. Single-pilot resource management (SRM) is the art of managing all onboard and outside resources available to a pilot before and during a flight to help ensure a safe and successful outcome At the same time flying solo is so fun and you can jam out to whatever music you want 🥰✈️

Being instrument rated is the best ☁️☁️ IFR is no longer an immediate no-go decision… Weather is an important part of aviation. We look at metars and TAFs the night before flying. then again in the morning we get a briefing taking note of anything out of normal(ADM). After all that and preflighting we tune into the ATIS/AWOS to listen to the current metar. All of these moments are times to reflect on weather conditions and your personal minimums. It can be hard to tell when it’s time to push them and when it’s time to be cautious. I tend to air on the side of caution so sometimes encouragement from an instructor goes a long way. Or inviting a safety pilot to help with the workload if the conditions are pushing your minimums.

Gotta love pilot humor 🤣 in and out of rain, enough to get the bugs off 😂💀 These are pireps (pilot reports of current wx status to ATC). I always check pireps during my wx briefing because it gives you a better idea how the flight is going to be. This time of year icing is always on my mind so pireps help me decide wether I’m flying or not ✈️

Since working on commercial I’m getting more comfortable with all kinds of wx Although it’s good to admit when you need a safety pilot. For me it’s flying in IFR conditions at night time.

Had a fun time camping at Oshkosh 2023 and can’t wait to go back. These selfies are on the way there (see how happy and refreshed I look). Little did I know that my spirit would be broken from para-motors waking me up at 6am and also 3 t-storms leaving the tents nice and damp.
