Tbh I’m not really celebrating this year since I’m spending it alone, I wasn’t able to fly out to see family because of my health but I still put together a pretty great Christmas Eve spread for myself last night! My family’s tradition is always to do a bunch of appetizers on Christmas Eve and watch some classics, thankfully I was able to virtually watch It’s a Wonderful Life last night with my family! I did: a cheese board with brie, st paulin (my favourite), applewood smoked cheddar, and a homemade cheese ball; homemade bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños; bacon wrapped marinated water chestnuts (kind of a weird one I know but another of my holiday favourites🫢 you just marinate the water chestnuts in soy sauce for a bit and then roll them in brown sugar and wrap them in a small piece of bacon & cook - they’re the best🤤); cold shrimp and homemade cocktail sauce (yes I peeled and deveined and cooked the shrimp myself!); and oysters that I shucked myself!! It was my first time shucking oysters and I actually did a pretty good job (you can see I already ate two before taking this photo🤭)((also I live on an island so I was able to get fresh oysters at my grocery store for $1.25 each ahaha)).
