I started over 20 pumpkin and squash plants this year and every single plant died. These 2 pumpkins are my entire pumpkin harvest and grew from a pumpkin I tossed on my compost pile a year ago. For the first time my plants got the dreaded squash vine borer, insects that will kill the plant within a couple of days. Every year there are successes and failures. I am a bit sad because I was trying some new varieties of squash, including one called Long Island Cheese, and Black Futsu, which is without question the ugliest squash in the world. But on the flip side, I successfully grew cauliflower for the first time this year!
