The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
The books is told from the perspective of the the four sisters and wife of a missionary in the Belgian Congo during the 1940s. They look on helplessly as he alienates and offends the local community which leads to horrible consequences for them all. One of my top 10 fav books of all time.
